Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 alternatives — what to use in 2026
Updated 10 September 2026 · Twin AI Labs
On 31 July 2026 ByteDance shipped Seedance 2.5: 30 seconds in one continuous generation instead of 15, and up to 50 reference inputs per request. The bill came due in resolution — independent tests find only 480p and 720p on 2.5, while the native 4K from the announcement stayed with the 2.0 line. Twin AI does not carry Seedance 2.5 yet, but it does run Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Hailuo 2.3 and Wan 2.7 on one credit balance, with no VPN.

What changed: Seedance 2.5 shipped on 31 July 2026
Seedance 2.5 was shown on 23 June 2026 at the Volcano Engine FORCE conference and launched globally on 31 July 2026 — first inside Dreamina, Jimeng and Doubao, then through the BytePlus ModelArk API and third-party providers. ByteDance skipped straight from 2.0 to 2.5, and the jump is real — just not where most people expected it.
What changed is length, not the frame. Seedance 2.0 stopped at 15 seconds; 2.5 delivers 30 seconds in one continuous generation, with no stitching of shorter takes. ByteDance Seed says such a generation can be extended twice more, and an Ultra-Long Video beta spotted in Jimeng stretches a single run to 180 seconds — but that is a beta, not a generally available mode.
The second change is references. One request now takes up to 50 materials: up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio files. Seedance 2.0 accepted 12. The third is audio: sound and picture are computed in the same pass, with multilingual speech and lip sync, instead of being bolted on afterwards.
Resolution is where the press release and the shipped model part ways. The announcement promised native 4K with 10-bit colour; hands-on tests from mid-August find only 480p and 720p on 2.5, with some providers exposing 1080p. Native 4K and 10-bit belong to the Seedance 2.0 line. In other words, 2.5 traded resolution for duration — and that trade drives every recommendation below.
- Announced 23 June 2026 at Volcano Engine FORCE, launched globally 31 July 2026 in Dreamina and Jimeng
- 30 seconds in one continuous generation versus 15 on Seedance 2.0, extendable twice
- Up to 50 reference materials per request: 30 images, 10 videos, 10 audio files — against 12 on 2.0
- Audio and video generated in the same pass, with multilingual speech and lip sync
- The Ultra-Long Video beta in Jimeng stretches a run to 180 seconds — beta, not a general feature
- Resolution is 480p and 720p (1080p on some providers). Native 4K with 10-bit colour stayed on Seedance 2.0

What Seedance 2.5 costs, and where you can reach it
Billing is per second, so 30 seconds is not "twice a five-second clip" — it is six times one. On the reAPI price list dated 22 August 2026, generation without a source video runs about $0.119 per second at 480p and about $0.267 per second at 720p; with a source video it drops to roughly $0.071 and $0.160. A single 30-second clip at 720p therefore lands around $8 — not per month, but per generation, which may not land on the first attempt.
The spread between providers is wider than people assume. At 720p without video input, Replicate asks about $0.231 per second, reAPI $0.267, EvoLink $0.293, Atlas Cloud $0.30, Kie.ai $0.315, WaveSpeed $0.36 (and $0.20 in Turbo), BytePlus $0.462, fal $0.473 — a 2x gap between the cheapest and the most expensive route to the same model.
Access is the other half of the problem. The primary Seedance 2.5 surfaces are Dreamina, Jimeng and Doubao — Chinese consumer products that generally need a VPN and a foreign card from many regions, while a BytePlus or Volcengine business account outside China asks for KYC.
And to be straight about it: Twin AI does not carry Seedance 2.5 yet. It carries Seedance 2.0 — alongside Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Hailuo 2.3, Wan 2.7, Seedance 1.5 and Grok Imagine, all on one credit balance.
Top Seedance alternatives in 2026 — and what you can actually run
First, the fact most older round-ups get wrong: Seedance 2.0 is no longer number one. On the Artificial Analysis text-to-video leaderboard for models with audio, as of late August 2026 the top five are Wan 3.0 (Elo 1242), Gemini Omni Flash (1237), MiniMax H3 Max (1235), MiniMax H3 (1227) and Dreamina Seedance 2.0 720p (1221). Kling 3.0 1080p Pro sits ninth (1108) and Veo 3.1 thirteenth (1091). Seedance 2.5 is not on the stable board yet — public availability is still ramping.
Image-to-video with audio ranks differently: MiniMax H3 Max (1202), then Dreamina Seedance 2.0 720p (1190), MiniMax H3 (1185) and Gemini Omni Flash (1179). So on animating a still, Seedance is still right at the top; in text-to-video it has been passed.
One player is leaving the list entirely: the Sora app shut down on 26 April 2026, and the API endpoints for Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro go dark on 24 September 2026. If your pipeline still calls them, the migration has a deadline, not a wish date.
Below are the models available in Twin AI with their real credit prices. Most share the same base: 600 credits for a standard clip, with surcharges for length, resolution and mode.
A word on three services often recommended instead of Seedance that Twin AI does not carry. Runway: Gen-3 Alpha shipped on June 17, 2024 with text-to-video, image-to-video, Motion Brush and Director Mode, and the current Gen-4 is a separate subscription. Luma: the Ray3.2 model makes 5- or 10-second clips at 360p–1080p with up to 16 keyframes, but no natively generated audio; plans start at $30 a month (Plus, 10,000 credits). Pika 2.5: the free plan is image-to-video only with a watermark, Basic is $8 a month for 80 credits at 480p, Standard $28, Pro $76. If you need one of these specifically, you pay them directly, in dollars.
| Model | Base price on Twin AI | Length / resolution | Surcharges and notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.0 | 600 credits | 5s, 720p | 10s +650, 1080p +1500, audio always |
| Kling 3.0 | 600 credits | 5s | Pro +240, sound +100, 10s +220 |
| Veo 3.1 | 900 credits (Fast 600) | — | up to two references, character speech |
| Hailuo 2.3 | 600 credits | 6s, 768p | 10s +30, 1080p +30, image-to-video only |
| Wan 2.7 | 600 credits | 5s, 720p | 10s +300, 1080p +170 |
| Seedance 1.5 | 600 credits | 4/8/12s, up to 1080p | audio optional +20 |
| Grok Imagine | 600 credits | — | short social clips |
| Seedance 2.5 | not in Twin AI | 30s, 480p/720p | ≈$0.267/sec at 720p (reAPI) |
- Seedance 2.0 — 600 credits for 5 seconds at 720p in Fast mode. Standard +140, 10 seconds +650, 1080p +1500. Audio is always generated, prompts run to 20,000 characters, aspect ratios go to 21:9 and 3:4, and one reference image is used as the first frame. Model page: /models/seedance-2
- Kling 3.0 — 600 credits for 5 seconds in Standard mode. Pro +240, sound +100, 10 seconds +220. The working pick when you need to animate a still photo. Model page: /models/kling-3
- Veo 3.1 — 900 credits; Veo 3.1 Fast — 600. Takes up to two reference images; people mostly reach for it when a character has to speak on camera.
- Hailuo 2.3 by MiniMax — 600 credits for 6 seconds at 768p, 10 seconds +30, 1080p +30, Pro mode +20. In Twin AI it runs image-to-video only; text-to-video is disabled on it.
- Wan 2.7 by Alibaba — 600 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, 10 seconds +300, 1080p +170. The Wan line has a history of open weights (2.1 and 2.2 shipped under Apache 2.0), so a self-hosted route exists too.
- Seedance 1.5 — 600 credits, 4, 8 or 12 seconds, up to 1080p, audio optional (+20). The same Seedance look one generation back, with more settings exposed.
- Grok Imagine — 600 credits, another inexpensive generator for short social clips.

Seedance direct versus Twin AI — the practical differences
Billing. Direct access to Seedance through Volcengine, BytePlus or aggregators such as fal, Replicate and Atlas Cloud is metered per second, so the bill scales with clip length: 30 seconds at 720p is roughly $8 per generation. Twin AI charges pay-as-you-go credits: 600 for a standard video clip, with surcharges only for length, resolution and mode. The same balance also pays for image generation and chat, so you are not stacking one subscription per tool.
Model choice. Dreamina, Jimeng and Volcengine lead you to exactly one model — theirs. Twin AI is model-neutral: /compare fans a single prompt across several models at once and puts the results side by side, instead of making you juggle tabs and separate subscriptions.
Where the Elo comes from. The model leaderboard shows the Elo score from Artificial Analysis head-to-head testing next to the price. That is an external benchmark, not an in-house poll — the point is to choose on comparable numbers rather than on press-release adjectives.
Access. Seedance’s primary interface is Chinese; jimeng.jianying.com generally needs a VPN from many regions, and a Volcengine account outside China needs KYC and a foreign card. Twin AI opens directly and takes local payment methods.
Scope. A Seedance subscription is a video tool. A Twin AI balance covers video, an image generator and multi-model chat in one place.
Pick by the job you had Seedance doing
You need exactly one continuous take longer than 15 seconds → this is the one scenario where going to Seedance 2.5 directly genuinely pays, with all of its conditions attached: Chinese surfaces, per-second billing and a 720p ceiling. No model in Twin AI delivers 30 seconds in a single piece.
General text-to-video → Seedance 2.0 inside Twin AI. It is fifth on the Artificial Analysis board and costs 600 credits for a five-second clip with audio already included.
Animating a still photo → Kling 3.0 or Hailuo 2.3. Hailuo runs image-to-video only in Twin AI, and its 6 seconds for 600 credits is the cheapest way to test an idea.
Character speech and lip sync → Veo 3.1 (900 credits) or Veo 3.1 Fast (600). Synced dialogue is the reason people pick it.
High-volume vertical clips for Reels, Shorts and TikTok → Grok Imagine, Seedance 1.5 or Wan 2.7. That job needs 5–8 seconds and throughput, not a 30-second continuous take.
You need 1080p → Wan 2.7 (+170 credits), Hailuo 2.3 (+30) or Seedance 1.5. On Seedance 2.0 the 1080p step costs +1500 credits, and on Seedance 2.5 most routes do not offer it at all.
A model inside your own product → do not hardcode one. Compare candidates in /compare and keep the ability to switch: the top of the leaderboard changed twice in three months of 2026.
What Seedance still does best
An honest alternatives page names what the original wins at — otherwise it cannot be trusted on anything else.
Length. 30 seconds in a single generation with no stitching is something nothing else in the mainstream currently does. For scale: Gemini Omni Flash works in roughly ten-second clips, and both Kling 3.0 and Wan 2.7 cap at 10 seconds.
Multimodal input. 50 materials per request (30 images, 10 videos, 10 audio) is the widest input surface among top 2026 video models. If your work needs style transfer, character references and an audio bed at once, there is no equivalent.
Image-to-video. On the Artificial Analysis image-to-video board for models with audio, Seedance 2.0 720p ranks second — on that specific job it is still at the very top.
Cinematic frames. Colour response and behaviour on long pans are what the Seedance line is consistently praised for, and in Twin AI it also accepts prompts up to 20,000 characters — well beyond Kling (2,500) or Wan (5,000).
If your work depends on those, you do not have to drop Seedance: version 2.0 runs inside Twin AI as one of the models, with the alternatives sitting next to it on the same balance.
Why Twin AI is the practical alternative
- One composer, one balance: Seedance 2.0, Seedance 1.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Hailuo 2.3, Wan 2.7 and Grok Imagine, with no separate subscription per service.
- /compare runs one prompt through several models at once — the outputs arrive side by side, so you judge with your own eyes instead of trusting a round-up.
- Credits instead of per-second metering: 600 credits for a standard video clip, surcharges only for length, resolution and mode, with the price printed on the model card.
- The Elo score from Artificial Analysis head-to-head testing sits next to the price — a comparable number rather than a marketing adjective.
- Runs without a VPN and takes local cards, so the access problem with the Chinese surfaces simply does not come up.
- Sign up with email or Google, no card required; starter credits land immediately and the balance is topped up as needed.
- The same balance covers image generation and multi-model chat — one subscription instead of three.

FAQ
How is Seedance 2.5 different from Seedance 2.0?
Three things. Length: 30 seconds in one continuous generation instead of 15. References: up to 50 materials per request (30 images, 10 videos, 10 audio) instead of 12. Audio: sound and picture are computed in the same pass, with multilingual speech and lip sync. The trade-off is resolution — hands-on tests find only 480p and 720p on 2.5, while native 4K with 10-bit colour stayed with the 2.0 line.
When was Seedance 2.5 released?
It was shown on 23 June 2026 at the Volcano Engine FORCE conference and launched globally on 31 July 2026 — first in Dreamina and Jimeng, then through the BytePlus ModelArk API and third-party providers.
Does Seedance 2.5 really do 4K and three minutes?
Not 4K, at least not in what actually shipped: hands-on tests from mid-August 2026 find only 480p and 720p, with some providers adding 1080p. Native 4K and 10-bit colour belong to Seedance 2.0. Three minutes is more nuanced — Jimeng and Dreamina expose an Ultra-Long Video beta that reaches 180 seconds, but it is flagged as beta and not documented as generally available. The standard mode is 30 seconds.
Is Seedance 2.5 available in Twin AI?
Not yet. Twin AI carries Seedance 2.0 — 600 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, audio always on — and Seedance 1.5 with a choice of 4, 8 or 12 seconds. Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Hailuo 2.3, Wan 2.7 and Grok Imagine sit on the same balance.
How much does Seedance 2.5 cost?
Billing is per second. On the reAPI price list dated 22 August 2026 it runs about $0.119 per second at 480p and $0.267 at 720p without a source video; with a source video, roughly $0.071 and $0.160. One 30-second clip at 720p lands around $8. Provider spread is 2x: at 720p, from about $0.231 on Replicate to $0.473 on fal.
Can I use Seedance from a region where ByteDance apps are hard to reach?
Directly, it is awkward: the primary Seedance 2.5 surfaces are Dreamina, Jimeng and Doubao, which generally need a VPN and a foreign card, while a BytePlus or Volcengine business account outside China needs KYC. Twin AI opens directly, takes local payment methods, and carries Seedance 2.0 alongside the main alternatives.
What is the best Seedance alternative in 2026?
It depends on the job — there is no single winner any more. On the Artificial Analysis text-to-video board for models with audio, late August 2026 has Wan 3.0, Gemini Omni Flash and MiniMax H3 Max ahead, with Seedance 2.0 720p fifth. Among what Twin AI runs: general text-to-video — Seedance 2.0; animating a still — Kling 3.0 or Hailuo 2.3; character speech — Veo 3.1; high-volume vertical clips — Grok Imagine, Seedance 1.5 or Wan 2.7.
Is there a free Seedance alternative?
The only genuinely free route is self-hosting an open model on your own GPU: the Wan line from Alibaba has released weights openly (2.1 and 2.2 shipped under Apache 2.0). Signing up for Twin AI with email or Google is free and needs no card, and starter credits land immediately — but video spends credits: a standard clip costs 600.
Do I have to give up Seedance entirely?
No. Seedance 2.0 runs inside Twin AI as one of its video models, so its strengths stay with you — cinematic frames, second place on the image-to-video-with-audio board, prompts up to 20,000 characters — while Kling, Veo, Hailuo and Wan share the same balance. Going out to an external service is worth it in exactly one case: when you need a continuous take longer than 15 seconds.
